Imagine climbing aboard our carriage, drawn by the magnificent Sirius and Seamus, before embarking on a cross-country adventure through the Cotswold countryside. Enjoy the views as you ascend the hill, then tuck in to a Cotswold picnic. It’s an experience you’ll cherish forever.
What better way to while away a summer day, than being taken by horse and cart to a beautiful spot on a hill. Blankets and location are provided. Enjoy your time eating and snoozing, while the horses are stood down from duty for an hour or two to graze nearby.
We set off from our own village, and travel by country lane to the next village where we leave the road and take you up the hill to a picnic spot above the village. The meadow and orchard where we stop is part of our own sustainably managed land and you will be free to enjoy the quiet, the breeze, and the views as far as the Malverns (and even Wales on a clear day).
This is truly a special way to celebrate any occasion, even just being alive!

Self-catering picnics are £200 with 2 hours picnic time for up to 5 people.

We take health and safety very seriously. However, we are not in a position to offer guarantees. Our activity involves horse drawn transport and horses are by their nature capable of reacting badly to unexpected events. We will of course we do everything we can to keep you, ourselves and our horses safe this includes other road users. However there is always the risk of incident and therefore you must accept there is an element of risk which we cannot eradicate and that you must accept if you are to take part. Cotswold Working Horses carries insurance.

We can accommodate up to 5 adults/children, or more if this includes smaller children – please contact us if you have any questions about the number of small children.
We have no dress code, wear what makes you comfortable. Dress for the weather and the countryside with suitable footwear and warm layers, and waterproofs. We provide an umbrella and blankets if required. Tell your guests to wrap up for the weather and dress appropriately.
We supply, the horses, the harness and the vehicles. We also supply the driver and the knowledge to answer questions as we go along.
We’re not big fans of heading out in a downpour (but if you are, we’re game!)
So, if it’s pouring with rain, we are happy to re-arrange dates subject to availability.
We have umbrellas for you, so if there’s just a slight dampness in the air, we would go ahead. We live in England, and we know about bad weather. Dress for the weather and the countryside with suitable footwear, warm layers, and waterproofs.

If your start time is missed we cannot guarantee alternative availability. We recommend being ready to join us at the location of your experience a minimum of 10 minutes before your start time.
Our horses are calm and gentle. We are a family who actively work towards greater diversity and inclusion and to address barriers and promote accessibility for all. If you or your party has needs to be considered please let us know and we will do all we can to support you and your guests and make your time with our horses special for everyone.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you are fit and able to take part in any of our experiences. Please contact us if you have any concerns or questions about our experiences and an existing health concern.
We enjoy having younger guests to visit our horses. We ask all children who come as guests to be sensible around our horses and be fully supervised by an adult at all times. There is no restriction on age, however the adult must take full responsibility for the child in their care. Please contact us if you have any questions or need support.
Sadly no dogs are allowed on any of our experiences.

We require 48 hours notice for all cancellations, and will reschedule your date. Sorry we cannot offer refunds.
In the rare times that we have to cancel due to bad weather or illness, we will give you as much notice as is possible, offer a full refund or re-book you – whichever you prefer.
We have public liability insurance, which all guests are covered by.
We are based in the Cotswold village of Alstone, GL20 8JD.
Ample parking is available on site by agreement when you book.
